Keith Trego

Keith grew up on a farm at Erie, North Dakota. He received an undergraduate teaching degree in science and mathematics from Mayville State University (MSU) in 1971. Following graduation from MSU, he took graduate courses at the University of Minnesota’s Itaska biological field station during the summer of 1971 and completed a master’s degree in fish and wildlife management from North Dakota State University in 1973. Keith began his career with the North Dakota Game and Fish Department in 1973 as a resource planner. He became a district game warden in 1977 stationed in Rugby, North Dakota, and became the Department’s deputy director in 1979. Keith left the agency in 1981 to pursue private business interests in real estate, insurance, and computer software development. He also worked in the Computer Services Division at Basin Electric Power Cooperative for nearly eight years. In 1989 Keith returned to the North Dakota Game and Fish Department as deputy director. In June of 1998, he accepted the position of executive director with the North Dakota Natural Resources Trust. Keith and his wife, Paulette, have two grown sons.

Linda Roeder

Linda calls Washburn, North Dakota, home. Traveling with her family, she attended several schools and graduated from Philip High School in South Dakota. She went on to Denver, Colorado, to a vocational school and returned to North Dakota where she went to work for the McLean County Register of Deeds. Linda has 35 years of office experience with more than 20 years working for the state of North Dakota. Many of those years were with the ND Game and Fish Department. Linda joined the Trust in July 1998 as assistant to the executive director. She and her husband, Wyman, live in Mandan. They have three daughters and six grandchildren.

Terry Allbee

Terry is a business manager/biologist with the Trust. He is a graduate of South Dakota State University, having experience in the fisheries, endangered species, and wildlife resources. Terry joined the Trust in 1999. His main responsibilities include the daily business activities of the Trust and coordinating Trust programs such as Midterm Conservation Easements, Beginning Farmer, and CRP. Terry is married to his beautiful wife, Heidi. When not at work he spends his time fishing.

Arnold (Arnie) Kruse

Arnie, wetland biologist, brings the experience of over 36 years of working with the US Fish and Wildlife Service to the Trust. He joined the Trust in 1998 after working with BlueStem, Inc., coordinating conservation farming practices with the Maple River Drift Prairie Project. Arnie works with landowners who are interested in the Trust cost share programs for CRP, native seeding, wetland restoration creation, or fencing projects. Arnie and his wife, Beulah, live in Jamestown, North Dakota.

Sharon Clancy

Sharon, the coordinator for conservation agriculture, joined the Trust in 1998. She has a Ph.D. in Range Science, specializing in Ecological Science, from North Dakota State University. She was wetland program manager for the Devils Lake Basin while working with BlueStem, Inc. Sharon coordinated the Trust CRP incentive program, developed the Efficiency Incentive Program (EIP), and established partnerships in wetland restoration projects with conservation agencies. Sharon works out of Devils Lake.

Merle Bennett

Merle was born and raised in a small farming community in central Nebraska. After high school and four years in the US Navy, Merle received a B.S. degree in wildlife management from Utah State University, Logan, in 1958 and immediately began work for the US Fish and Wildlife Service (Division of Refuges). Merle worked at numerous national wildlife refuges in the western and central United States, and several area offices over the next 22 years. In 1982 Merle opened a private business in Bismarck, North Dakota, and in 1985 began work with Ducks Unlimited, Inc., at the Great Plains Habitat Office in Bismarck. Merle worked for Ducks Unlimited, Inc., until 1992 and then retired. Since then, Merle has worked several part-time/seasonal jobs (some concurrently) for several natural resource agencies/organizations. Merle and his wife of 40 plus years, Deanie, have two grown children and three grandchildren.
