The North Dakota Natural Resources Trust is under direction of a six-member board of directors, each serving a two-year term, responsible for managing the Trust 's affairs. Three of the directors are appointed by the governor of North Dakota, one by the National Audubon Society, one by the National Wildlife Federation, and one by the North Dakota Chapter of The Wildlife Society. The North Dakota Game and Fish Department director is an ex-officio member. Any member of the board is eligible for reappointment for successive terms.

Members of the board elect their president, vice-president, and secretary/treasurer at the spring meetings. All officers serve one-year terms, but are eligible for re-election.

Richard (Dick) Kroger

Dick grew up in Cottonwood, Minnesota. He went to school at South Dakota State University to receive his B.S. in wildlife biology and to the University of Wyoming where he received his M.S. degree in fisheries biology. Dick also served in the Army’s famed 82nd Airborne Division. Since retiring from federal service in 1994, he remains very involved in conservation issues in his home state of Minnesota and in North Dakota. The National Wildlife Federation appointed Dick as their representative to the ND Natural Resources Trust’s board of directors in 1995. He and his wife, Karen, live near Wood Lake, Minnesota. They have three grown children.

Bruce Adams

Bruce grew up on a small grain farm near Minot. Graduating from Lansford High School, Bruce then attended North Dakota State University and earned a B.S. degree in Agricultural Engineering. He became a small grain farmer in 1971 and retired in 1997. Bruce was active in community affairs and has served The Nature Conservancy as a trustee. He was also the Ward County director of the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District. Currently Bruce is a trustee of Viking Mutual Fund of Minot. In September 2002, the governor appointed Bruce to the Trust board. Bruce and his wife, Carolyn, live in Minot and have two grown sons.

Scott Peterson

Scott grew up on a small grain and cattle farm in southwest Barnes County. After graduating from Montpelier High School, he attended North Dakota State University where he earned a degree in Wildlife Management and Zoology. He began his career with the ND Game and Fish Department in 1986 as a biologist associated with the Garrison Diversion Project stationed in Bismarck. His current position is as a wildlife resource section supervisor based in Harvey, North Dakota, managing the Lonetree Wildlife Management Area (WMA) and several others that are located in four central counties. These WMAs are both owned by the Department and leased from other entities. Scott is a past president and life member of the North Dakota Chapter of The Wildlife Society (NDCTWS) and has served as the Chapter’s representative on the ND Natural Resources Trust board since December 2001.

Duane Liffrig

Duane grew up on a grain/cattle farm in Ward County. After graduating from Ryder High School, he obtained a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with an economics major from UND. He was with the 164th Infantry Regiment during the Korean conflict and went from there into the real estate and insurance business in Williston for 20 years. He served as ND Director of HUD, ND Highway Commissioner, and was a stock broker for Merrill Lynch. He and his wife, Doris, live in Bismarck. They have eight children and 30 grandchildren. Duane has been a Trust director since 1997.

Jack Olin

A North Dakota native, Jack grew up on a farm near the former rural community of Sims. Upon completion of Almont High, he attended Bismarck Junior College and served in the US Army for two years. Jack worked for the Soo Line RR and ND Highway Patrol before becoming president and general manager of the Dickinson Ready Mix Company. He was active in community affairs and spent four sessions with the ND Legislature. He has served on the ND Board of Higher Education and the ND State Water Commission. Jack also served as president of the ND Water Users Association and was directly involved with the early development of the water pipeline bringing Lake Sakakawea water to Dickinson and southwest North Dakota. He has been active on many local water boards and currently serves on the water board for Stark County. In September 2002, the governor appointed Jack to the Trust board of directors. Jack and his wife, Velma, reside in Dickinson and have three grown sons.

Dean Hildebrand

Dean was born and raised at Kulm, North Dakota. He grew up in the grocery, farming, and cattle business. He earned a B.S. in biology from Valley City State University and a MS in fisheries biology from the University of North Dakota. Dean has served as a teacher, college administrator, owner and operator of a marina, commander of Camp Grafton, and as chief of staff for the North Dakota Army National Guard. He served three sessions in the North Dakota Legislature and is the recipient of many military and civilian awards. After 40 years of service in the National Guard, he was appointed as director of the ND Game and Fish Department in 1996 and reappointed in 2001. Dean is an ex-officio member of the ND Natural Resources Trust Board of Directors. He and his wife, Joey, have three children and five grandchildren.
